AVID - 11th and 12th Special Education AVID 11 Course Description AVID 11 is offered as an elective course that is meant to serve students in their preparation for a post secondary education. The course like previous AVID classes meets four days a week centered around the tutorial and college preparatory activities. Students will receive one to two days of instruction per week in college entry level skills, and one or two days per week in tutor led study groups, and one hour per week in motivational activities and academic survival skills. A strong emphasis will be placed on college entrance exam preparation (PSAT, SAT, ACT) and vocabulary development. AVID 11 students are expected to be enrolled in at least one AP/Honors course in core academic subject areas. It is strongly encouraged that students also take an active role in extra curricular or campus activities to enhance student resume for college admittance. As a seminar class this course qualifies as a college prep elective under the ā€œGā€ requirement for the CSU/UC systems.
 
AVID 12 Course Description: AVID 12 is an elective course designed help support students in preparation to apply and get admitted into a post secondary institution. The course is conducted as a seminar that will require students to participate in class discussion and activities that stresses expressive writing, inquiry and collaboration. Students are expected to be enrolled in at least two AP/Honors courses in their core academic subject areas and ensure that they are working towards the completion of all their ā€œA-Gā€ requirements. Students are expected to be focused on completing a successful senior year and make every preparation possible in applying for college. This would include taking the SAT, ACT, and college entrance exams. Unlike previous AVID elective classes, AVID 12 will challenge students to take on numerous responsibilities and duties to not only contribute to individual growth, but also that of AVID underclassmen.
