- Student Representative Report
- Maricruz- To wrap up the events from 2012, El Rancho's Powder Puff game occurred on December 13th - right before winter break. Senior Eric Calderon was crowned powder puff queen during the halftime of the game. The seniors dominated the juniors with a final score of 22 to 14. In addition to the 2012 events, the Christmas tree decorating competition was held in the cafeteria due to the cold and rainy weather. First place was awarded to the senior class, leaving the juniors in second, sophomores in third, and freshmen in fourth. The Christmas trees were later donated to needy families in Pico Rivera. Students then enjoyed their Winter Break which took place from December 15th to January 6th. Students then returned to school on the following Monday January 7,2013

- Sydney-ER Pride day was held on January 17th from 3-5:00pm. 1st semester finals took
- place on January 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Since students only attended two classes on each
- day, they were considered minimum days, allowing students to be released from school
- at 12:15pm. As first semester came to an end, report cards were mailed out to students
- and parents and second semester began on January 28th. This is also the third year that
- El Rancho takes part in hosting visiting students from China. The Ranch is currently
- hosting 39 visiting 10th graders. They are staying with Pico Rivera families at night,
- attending ERHS classes during the week, and visiting college campuses on the
- weekends. Studying abroad in America is intended to help these students adapt to
- American culture and our system of learning, as they all plan to come back in a few years
- for college.

- Mia-In addition, the academic decathlon competition took place this past Saturday,
- February 2nd- Congratulations to this year's decathlon team for placing 6th out of 52
- schools in the Super Quiz Relay event. As we kicked off the second semester, our
- basketball season began as well. Staff Appreciation Night was held last Friday where the
- boys and girls basketball teams held a short ceremony in recognition of the teachers.
- Each team member chose a teacher to recognize and each teacher represented their
- basketball player by wearing their team number. Many visiting students from China also
- attended the game and expressed their blue pride!

- Francisco- El Rancho's Winterbelle took place last Friday as well during halftime of the
- boys' varsity basketball game. Congratulations to Osiris Arteaga for being crowned as
- Winterbelle queen. Her Winterbelle court awas Kathleen Canchola and Esmeralda
- Reynoso. As we prepare for this coming Saturday (February 9th), El Rancho's Winter
- formal dance will be held at Almansor Court in Alhambra. This year's theme is " A Night
- in White". The Dance will begin promptly at 8:00pm and end at 12:00 midnight. As a
- reminder, there will be no school for the next upcoming Mondays in honor of Lincoln Day
- and Washington Day, allowing students to have safe and restful 3-day weekends.

- DAC
- Teresa Villegas reported that categorical funding was explained using the example of adding accessories (supplements) to a bicycle, such as a bell, basket, or training wheels. Categorical fund supplement educational programs; they do not supplant/replace or take away. She reported current categorical funding for the 2012-13 year
- Title 1 $2,512,050
- Title II $449,681
- Title II (LEP) $263,062
- Ms. Villegas also shared that all school sites should have their bylaws and “Parent involvement policy” for Title 1.
- DELAC
- Alfredo Martinez shared that the DELAC meeting had the same “Categorical funds” PowerPoint presentation except that their example was ice cream and the topping being the supplements. He also shared that LEP funding has less money due to re-classification.
- Special Ed.
- Freddy Larrache reported that Chef Luna was planning a Valentine’s Day activity for special education students. Students would be paired up and for a project that included food preparation and chocolate presentation.
- Administration
Mr. Genis reported the following:
- ERHS Academic Decathlon Team placed 6th place out of 56 schools on Super Quiz which was based on seven subjects. Next week at banquet overall point results will be announced. The team has gone to State for the last three years.
- Governor proposal of giving school boards unrestrictive use of categorical funds for general fund use will be voted on in June/July. Title 1 would be exempt since it it is federally funded. Proposal might affect SSC accountability.
- Parent portal will launch on Feb. 18th. Eighteen teachers are piloting the program. A letter will be going out to applicable parents explaining the parent portal log in information. The timeline for all parents to be able to use the” Parent portal” is set for September 2013.
- Teen court which is held the 1st Wednesday of the month was attended by several members of the SSC committee.
Separate Action items:
- Parent School Compact- Approval (parent responsibilities) Tabled until all sections document are completed.
- Parent School Compact- Selection (student responsibilities) was completed.
- ELAC Delegation of Responsibilities tabled until next meeting.
Public Comment
- Teresa Villegas asked when do students receive the A-G passport. Mr. Genis advised that they receive it their junior year. Ms. Villegas suggested they receive the passport sooner. Mr. Renteria suggested having a virtual passport. Mr. Genis shared that printing cost is an issue but suggested that adding it to the yearly student planners might be an option.
- Esther Mejia shared that the ERHS Track team will be holding its annual “5K Fun Run/Walk on 2/23/13. Pre-registration cost is $20 for adults and $10 for 1k kids run.
- Mr. Genis shared there is a CNY celebration after school at the school cafeteria on 2/18/13.
- Alfred Renteria thanked Mr. Genis for having security at gates early in the morning when parents are dropping off students. He also shared his concern over the long lunch lines.
- Mr. Genis asked everyone to keep teachers in their thoughts and prayers since cancer has affected several of our teachers.
