Call to order
SSC Chairperson, Alfred Renteria called to order the regular meeting at 5:00 PM in the school library.
SSC quorum was confirmed by the school site secretary

IV. Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the February 1, 2012 meeting minutes. The following corrections were made: In attendance; parents present: Alfred Renteria and Teresa Villegas not Teresa Navarro. Nathaniel Zaragoza motioned to approve the minutes with corrections / Sydney Woo seconded.

• Information/Discussion Items
• Student representatives report- 

Nathaniel: Academic Decathlon competed 1/28 and 2/3 and many participant’s medalled in the different events. They are competing at state March 15th and 16th.
Winterbelle voting took place at lunch on 2/3.
Eric: Staff Appreciation basketball game was on 2/3. Each varsity player chose a staff member to represent them and where presented between the boys and girls game.
Parent Night and Winterbelle were at the basketball game on 2/10. Both events ran smoothly. The winterbelle queen is Amaris Machuca and the princesses were Alexa Romero and Evelyn Ramos.
Sydney: 2/11 was winter formal at Mile Square Golf Course in Fountain Valley. The theme was Arabian nights and it was well attended and the students had fun.
2/16 was open house. All teachers, departments, club, sports and important community groups were on campus to inform those interested with what ERHS has to offer.
Jaelene: Teen Read week took place from 2/27-3/2. It gave students the opportunity to check out great books in the library as well as promote literacy.
The boys varsity soccer team battled their way to the CIF championship game but unfortunately lost 3-0.
Upcoming events include Mother Daughter and Sadie Hawkins Dance (Jungle Themed).

• DAC report-: Meeting held at North Ranchito Elementary. A quorum didn’t exist; therefore, business was not conducted.

• DELAC report : Meeting was held February 15, 2012. Sarita Mota reported that Alejandra Pantoja, the district ELD coordinator, was present to share the requirements for the district to receive title three monies. Also, she discussed the letters that went out to parents regarding title three monies. In addition, a presentation of ELD data that was collected between 2008 and 2011 was presented to show how the ELD population has improved during those years.

• GATE-  No report 
• Administration-   Mr. Genis
• Academic Decathlon placed 7th overall in LA County and they are headed to the state competition.
• Open House was very successful and well attended. Some parts of the evening need to be modified: Have an itinerary available, so that parents can see the different performances or demonstrations. A change in time from 5-7:45pm to 5-7pm. Mr. Renteria suggested embedding the food trucks inside campus so that parents are not leaving. 
• We have named Venencio (Vinnie) Lopez as the new head football coach. He comes to us with nine years of experience. We are going to try to offer day-to-day substitute positions so that he has a presence on campus.
• The Israeli Consulate visited on February 28, 2012. They presented information on the current economic situation in Israel as well as happenings in the Middle East. They spoke with four AP classes, and were impressed with the caliber of questions they students asked. The students were interested in the different foods and as a result, an Israeli chef will be coming to the culinary class on campus soon.
• Teen Read Week was a success and many District Administrators came on campus to read to students.
• CAHSEE testing will take place next week (3/13 & 3/14).

•             The high school will be sending out 12-15 March 15th notices and the high school is expecting to loose six or seven positions. Mr. Genis may need to use categorical funds to pay for one to two teachers. They funds would be used appropriately for at-risk or intervention classes. This will cost between $60,000 and $70,000 per teacher.
•            

  Public Comment- Mr. Ellias: Students have increased rider ship on the Montebello bus lines by 36%. That is about 1,435 students per week. This has caused a problem with delays. The city of Pico Rivera contracted with consultants to discuss bus line plans and for the first time they are targeting the youth population. The students also submitted plans that were very thorough and found a need at the north end of Pico Rivera that the consultants hadn’t.

• Mr. Elias also discussed that at the Teen Court Conference of Southern California, Mr. Genis was given an award that will be presented to him at a future board meeting. Also the program is impressive and Mr. Elias is excited about its progress. He is now focusing on recruiting younger students and felt that Open house was a good avenue for that.  Mr. Renteria asked if the jurors, bailiffs, etc cycled or if new students were selected each time. Mr. Elias said any interested students put their names in a hat and are drawn at random, however, most students are in the pre-law classes or the teen court club.
