Call to order
Dr. Aurora Villon called to order the regular meeting at 5:02PM on 4/1/2009 in the school library. Dr. Villon welcomed everyone and introductions took place.

Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the March 4th meeting minutes. David Angelo motioned/ James Halley 2nd the minutes approved. Motion carried and passed.
School Advisory Reports
- Student representative report- Bo Guillen reported the following:
May 7th Mother/Daughter “Picnic” theme.
May 2nd - Prom at Sea cliff Country Club. Cost $60 w/ASB and $65 w/out ASB card.

- DAC report- Dr. Aurora Villon reported the following;

- DAC bylaws continue to be reviewed line by line.

- No report.
- EIA/SCE- Mr. Genis reported $400,000 in fund. Guidelines to use the funds are rigid due to CPM findings.
- Title I-
- GATE- Mr. Genis reported funds were swept by to the district general fund.
- Administration- Mr. Genis reported on the following;
- Commented the student body “Drop and Cover” evacuation drill went well. Drill took place as a district directive to keep students informed on evacuation process. The drill started at 10:30 and ended at approximately 11:05.This was the second drill of the school year. Dr. Villon inquired were emergency supplies are kept and Mr. Genis replied in a container by the football scoreboard. Mr. Genis will share the emergency procedure packed that was disseminated to the teachers at our next school site council meeting.
- On Saturday May 16th, ERHS will be the location for a “Terrorist Take Over” drill in conjunction with the LA County Sheriff department, US Navy, Fire Dept., LAPD and FBI. The company “Infoguard” selected ERHS. Drill begins at 7:00am and ends at 4:00pm. There are approximately 400-500 participants from all over California in the drill. The campus will be closed on that day. The day before the drill is a minimum day. Letters will go out to the parents and community members to inform them of the drill.
- Mr. Genis disseminated a list of the El Rancho academic decathlon members and coaches ,a detailed LA county results and the results of the California Academic Decathlon as listed below:

- Music Hernan Reza-Gold
- Top Scoring Team Decathlete Jonathan Luna (14th overall in the STATE)
- Super Quiz 23rd out of 60 schools
- Overall 27th out of 60 schools
- The academic decathlon team and coaches will be recognized at the April 16th school board meeting.
- Rio Hondo College Early College Academy will begin in the upcoming school year. The program will be built into the master schedule. Current 9th graders will be recruited and selected by Rio Hondo College Early College program coordinators. RHC will meet with our counselors to see what classes will fit class schedule in order not to duplicate classes. The goal is to have the group of 30 to 35 students’ complete 25 transferable college credit units by the time they graduate.
- 2nd Tri Honor roll handout was passed out. Certificates will be passed out to honor roll students in front of their peers. The list honor roll students will be displayed around campus and on the school website.
- Honor roll 3.0-3.30 & Principal’s Honor roll 3.33 and above.

- Information was received that April 2nd would be “Senior Ditch Day” at Santa Monica. Mr. Genis informed this was not a school sponsored activity and that a tele-parent would go out to parents of senior students letting them know that there would be consequences for those students being absent without a valid excuse.
- “Career Pathways” will be implemented in the upcoming school year. Currently looking at adding classes in the medical field, culinary arts, hospitality, and digital arts program. ER currently offers Administration of Justice and Forensics.
- Three -Peat schedule passed with 79% of the votes. Semester bell schedule was disseminated to all.
Separate Action Items:
- Summer School- Mr. Genis reported there is no specific information yet due to the budget constraints. Possibly only offering make up classes. Length of summer school is 5 weeks and the day runs from 8am to 1:15pm. More information should be available by the next SSC meeting.
- SSC Elections- Elections to be held in May at parent conference. Three school site council parent representatives will be need to be elected since Dr. Villon, Esperanza Angelo and Antoinette Paez terms will expire this school year. Nominations will be taken from the floor at the next SSC meeting in May. Mr. Genis will send a letter to incoming 9th grade parents informing them of the opportunity to place their name on the May election ballots. There will also be a notice on the ER website.

- Ms. Guerrero disseminated, explained and took questions on the following handouts;

- There was a concern by the council when Ms. Guerrero shared that she placed 800 out of 1000 students in programs since parents did not return English Learner two option program selection. Ms. Guerrero also shared that a transfer student was misplaced in English Only classes and therefore was failing his classes. The student self-referred himself to see Ms. Guerrero who then placed him in English Learner classes. The school site requested a follow up on how the student was incorrectly designated to “English Only”. Mr. Genis, who had no prior knowledge of this incident will investigate and have a follow up for the next SSC meeting. Ms. Sarita Mota, commented she was very happy with the support that Ms. Guerrero is providing for the students. Dr. Villon requested that Ms. Guerrero finish her presentation at the next SSC meeting due to time constraints and also to give SSC members time to digest the vast amount of information presented. Dr. Villon reminded SSC members that there were CPM findings for English Learners. She requested SSC members to review all the handouts and come prepared with any questions that they may have for Ms. Guerrero. The school site council thanked, Ms. Guerrero for her presentation.

Public Comment:
- Pat Gomez handed out pamphlets for “Walk Now for Autism” that she is involved with. Event will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Pasadena Rose Bowl. Her daughters Brissa and Gabrielle De La Rosa will be participating in the walk.
- Angela Aguillon shared her concern that there are not enough counselors and that students might be placed in the wrong classes.
- Teresa Navarro thanked Ms. Guerrero for her presentation to the SSC. She also expressed her frustration at attending school site council meeting and yet feeling like she had no voice. Mr. Genis reminded her that of DELAC and that she can always express her concerns. Ms. Guerrero reminded her that there is bilingual support and that she can is welcome to visit her in room B8. Dr. Villon reminded the school site council that we have the headphones that were purchased for English to Spanish translation and suggested they be brought out again along with a translator.
- Mr. Genis reminded of the April 14th Budget Reduction Committee meeting at 3:00pm in the district office which is open to the public. Some items that are being considered for reduction or elimination are deans, counselors, pupil transportation, and sports.
