SSC Chairperson, David Angelo called to order the regular meeting at 5:02 PM in the school library.

Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the March 2nd meeting minutes. James Haley motioned/ Juventino Rodriguez 2nd meeting minutes approval with corrections.

Information/Discussion Items
- Student representatives report-
- On 4/8/11 “ER’s Got Talent” talent show to be held at 7pm $5 admission fee.
- At the Hula Hawkins themed pep rally the all Spring sports were recognized
- 3/18 Hula Hawkins was a success
- ASB has decided to hold a “King of the Ranch” contest which is a pageant for boys. It will take place on May 6th at 6pm.
- Multicultural Carnival to be held on 4/13/11
- DAC report- David Angelo reported Mr.Tor Ormseth presented a Math workshop with activities and gave pointers on how parents can help their kids with math. The final recommendation that was given to the DAC members was for parents to start a relationship with their child’s math teacher to have a good communication.

- DELAC report – Sarita Mota reported DELAC also held a Math workshop presented by Ms. Ponciano. Math strategies were reviewed and it was stressed that reading is of upmost importance in order to understand word problems.
- Special Education- Mr. Gutierrez shared transition meeting was being held this week at Rivera Middle school. Prep club will be integrated in the summer. No date yet for the potluck still working on the calendar. Mr. Angelo added April is “Autism Awareness” month.

- GATE- No report
- Administration- Dr. Ventura reported
- The Academic Decathlon Team placed 29th overall in the state. The team received four gold medals, one silver, and three bronze.
- There will be a meeting on April 7, 2011, at 7:00PM, in the cafeteria, regarding the closure of Passons Blvd. and the addition of buses (Montebello Bus Lines) Back gate will open on April 15th, security will be at the gate.
- April 9th at 3pm at Pico Rivera Art Center a showing of “Arts and the Community”, a display of El Rancho student’s art work. The band and Choraleers will perform to kick off the event.
- May 2nd begins CST and AP testing. Dr. Ventura disseminated a testing schedule and advised that the testing schedule would be posted on the school website. Dr. Ventura also mentioned there are more students taking the AP tests than last year.

- Dr. Ventura reported El Rancho received a 3-year accreditation and disseminated and discussed the following italicized report:

- The visiting committee though impressed with the collaborative efforts among a number of staff members to bring about positive change still recognizes a need to clarify prior areas of critical needs.

- School-wide focus on alignment of curriculum maps and benchmark assessments is needed so that the proficiency rates of students’ scores on benchmark assessments are comparable to the proficiency rates of students’ scores on CST’s (Critical Area 4,5 & 8)
- Revise the current SPSA Action Plans so that all 2008 WASC Visitation School-Wide Critical Areas for Follow-up are addressed and directly related to the steps listed within the goals of the Action Plan, and can be easily identified. (Critical Area 7)
- Develop a school-wide system to monitor the achievement of the new support courses and intervention programs in each content area. (Critical Area 4,5 & 8)
- As a staff, review and reflect on the Tutorial Period through the new “ Alaska Model” bell schedule, so that the eighty minutes per day, three days per week, are spent on more focused-instructional support for ALL students. (Critical Area 4,5, & 8)
- Provide authentic, school-wide, comprehensive training for the Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s) so that the PLC’s can be used as a more powerful vehicle for positive student achievement to: (Critical Area 4,5, &8)
- Align content standards w/common pacing guides
- Revise common benchmark assessments
- Review student achievement data results
- Develop and share best practices
- Develop common instructional strategies that demonstrate differentiated instructions for ALL students, especially English Leaner students enrolled in mainstream classes
- Provide school-wide, ongoing professional development

- Provide school-wide comprehensive training to ALL teachers on Lesson Study and implement a process whereby teachers’ empower themselves to collegially observe teachers’ best practices (Critical Area 4,5 & 8)
- Develop and implement a school-wide program that improves all students’ daily language skills of vocabulary, speaking, reading, and writing in all content areas.(ie.: Writing Across the Curriculum, Checking for Understanding, etc.) (Critical Area 4,5&8)
- Continue to work to identify and implement school-wide, rigorous instructional strategies that engage all students in ALL content areas. (Critical Area 4,5, & 8)
- The school and district office need to work more collaboratively in order to eliminate the perception that the District Office does not support the school and its community. (Critical Area 2)

- b) SSC Nominations for 2011-12, 2012-13 term
- The following nominations were taken from:

- Pat Gomez
- SSC elections will be held at parent conference in April 28th. Middle school parents will receive a letter to notify them ERHS SSC is taking nominations giving them the opportunity to put their names on the ballot by contacting the school office. A Teleparent message will be used to notify current El Rancho parents once it is approved by Mr. Genis.

Public Comment
- Antoinette Paez commented that there was a flyer received in the mail regarding budget cuts and that a Teleparent message was also received but they had conflicting information regarding the meeting location. Dr. Ventura stated d she would look into this matter.
- Teresa Villegas commented that there was a typo on the parent conference letter that was mailed out. It listed parent conference to be held on April 21st on one side of the letter and April 29th on the other side. Dr. Ventura stated she would look into this matter.
