SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL MEETING
March 31, 2004
- Call to order—5:15 pm
- Flag Salute
- A quorum was confirmed.
- Members in attendance were: Parents— Ron Beilke and
Frank Moreno Students—Brandon Longoria and Stephanie Mendez Classified
Staff— Certificated Staff—James Halley, Dawn Hughey,
Carol Stella, and Manuel Cruz Administration—Julie Ellis ELAC—

- Minutes were approved with the following
revisions
- Both Lindseys (from
LACOE) hold docorates
- Student Reports—
a. The trip to Sacramento
will take place April 25-27
b. Honor Crest recipients
have been notified (83 students). Must have a 3.3 GPA
c. New Executive Commission
members were mentioned
- DAC—nothing to report
- Special Ed.—
- Chuck Collings is
the new dean (was a Learning Handicapped teacher at El Rancho—replaced
Mr. Goyenaga as 9th grade dean)
- Severely Handicapped class has money
making projects for March and April
- Title 1—Nothing to report
- GATE—
- Advanced Placement meeting is tomorrow

- Administration
a. Songleaders are the newly crowned National Champions
- Parent Project—
a. Project was permitted at City Hall
b. Committee
on the project is being finalized
- Scholarship Fundraising—
- Turn around trip has been cancelled due to lack of interest
- Timing was bad
- Teachers are willing to donate money to scholarship fund; this is a
tax write-off
- Council recommended and approved a scholarship fund
- Principal Ellis will include a flyer in the next mailing for third
trimester parent conferences asking for donations
- API Scores were reported by Julie Ellis
- Total API growth from 1999-2002 was 137 points
- Our target goal increase as set by the state is 9 points for the 2003
testing date
- El Rancho has gone from a Decile 2 school
to a Decile 4 school (as compared to all other high schools
in California on a scale from 1 to 10)
- We would like to see the school move to a Decile 6
by the time Principal Ellis retires or moves on
- Public Comment—
- A representative from City Hall brought Residents Services brochures
from the city to share.
- Agenda—
- The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 5th
