Alfredo Martinez called the regular meeting to order at 5:04PM on 12/5/12 in the school library.

Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the November 14th regular meeting and November 28th special meeting minutes. Alicia Villegas motioned/ Maricruz Argueta seconded the November 14th minutes. Sam Genis motioned / Alfredo Martinez seconded the November 28th special meeting minutes. Both minutes were approved as read.
Student representatives report- Maricruz Argueta, Mia Castillo, Francisco Garcia, and Sydney Woo reported the following:
- Mia- November 15th the 2nd annual open house was held. Many clubs and organizations set up booths in the quad in order to show what they are about. The clubs also decided to sell a variety of foods and snacks. There were many attendees and it was a great opportunity for incoming freshmen to see what El Rancho has to offer.

- Sydney- November 19th through the 23rd was Thanksgiving break. Powder puff practice began Monday, November 26th for the boy cheerleaders and November 28th for the girl football players. Powder Puff voting for juniors and seniors is today, December 5th.

- Mia- Class presidents have been preparing for the Christmas tree decorating competition which will take place on December 12th at lunch in the quad. The themes are: Seniors Pixar’s Cars (red & gold), Juniors Winter Wonderland (Blue & silver), Sophomores Classic Disney (black & white), and Freshmen Superheroes (yellow & purple).

- Francisco- Powder Puff game will be held on December 13th with a five dollar admission. Everyone is welcome to attend. Dress warm attire to support the sophomores at the concession stands during the game. There are seven school days until winter break.

DAC report- Teresa Villegas reported that parent responsibilities were tabled until next meeting in February. Math night workshop will start next year at a DAC meeting. She also commented that Ms. Roxanne Fuentes, ERUSD Assistant Superintendent attended the DAC meeting and shared about her life and community roots in Pico Rivera.
DELAC report- Alfredo Martinez reported that he would bring notes from presentation to next meeting.
Special Ed- Freddy Larrache reported there was a meeting on Monday, December 2nd in which Kristine Ramos/ERUSD coordinator of Special Education showed teachers how to complete an IEP. A needs assessment survey will be put together by Ms. Ramos and given to teachers at a future meeting. Dr. Ventura will review findings of the survey.
GATE- No report
Administration- Mr. Genis reported the following:
- 2014 will bring about change from CST to Common Core State Standards (CCSS). CCSS is a series of nation wide standards. AYP will change due to CCSS. In 2014 only 11th graders will test. The test will be computer based. All ERHS teachers will start training in January 2013. Testing for 9th grade & 10th grade students, is still unknown as is CAHSEE testing. Pacing guides will be needed to get current 9th graders, the future 11th graders ready for the CCSS test.
- The 2012-13 SPSA has been sent to Mr. Crone to be posted online at the ERHS website.
- Teachers will be getting training on “Olweus” bullying prevention program. A student survey will be scheduled.
- Thanked parents for contacting district about the “parent portal”.
Action items:
- Parent-School Compact – Mr. Genis disseminated handouts of sample parent school compacts. All school site council members gave input for the parent section of the ERHS revised parent/teacher/school compact. The selections for the revision were made after a very active group discussion. First run of the parent section will be handed out at next school site council meeting for second reading, review and approval.
- Teen Court- On behalf of Mr. Elias, Mr. Genis formally invited school site council members to attend “Teen court” held on January 9th at the Pico Rivera city hall.
- ELAC Delegation of Responsibilities Training- Item tabled until February meeting. Mr. Genis disseminated a hardcopy PowerPoint presentation out to school site council members for their review.
