Call to order
SSC Chairperson, Alfred Renteria Jr. called to order the regular meeting at 5:05 PM in the school library.

IV. Approval of minutes from last meeting
School site council members individually read the October 5, 2011 meeting minutes. Nathaniel Zaragoza motioned/ Eric Calderon seconded approval of the meeting minutes as read. .

- Student representatives report-
Jaylene: On 10/11 Arne Duncan , the secretary of Education came to the Town Hall meeting hosted by ERHS.
Students took the PSAT on 10/12
Midterm week was 10/17-10/21
Amber: Homecoming week was 10/24-10/28
10/24 there were carnival games in the quad to earn class points. ASB and Pepsters spent the night in order to prepare for blue pride day. In addition, it was a bonding experience.
10/25 during lunch there was a runway show, during which class presidents and advisors showed off their blue pride.
10/26 was the homecoming carnival at lunch. During this clubs and athletic teams sell different food items to students as a fundraiser.
10/27 was the annual night pep rally, during which all classes showed their school spirit and participated in skits and cheers. It was a great turnout and the seniors took first, the sophomores took 2nd , the juniors 3rd and the freshmen 4th.
Nathaniel: 10/28 was the homecoming assembly at lunch. Families of the homecoming court candidates showed their support and princesses were announced
It was also parent night just before the start of the football game vs. Pioneer. Parent of football players, pesters, color guard and band were introduced and thanked for their time and dedication.
The football team won the game against pioneer and the 2011 homecoming Queen, Kimberly Garcia, was announced at halftime.
The homecoming dance followed the game and there was a great turnout of students and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves.

11/4 is a minimum day as well as LA county AVID night at Knott’s Berry Farm

- DAC report- meeting was held October 19, 2011. Nothing to report

- DELAC report – meeting was held October 19, 2011. Sarita Mota said they discussed the mission as well as roles and responsibilities.
- Special Education- Mr. Larrache reported the program specialist for the district talked with ERHS staff about the importance of collaboration between the special education and the general education teacher. Some teachers then gave testimony and tips to staff of how to develop that collaboration.
- EIA SCE/ EIA LEP Nothing to report
- GATE- No report
- Administration- Mr. Genis
- Credit Recovery Program is off the ground. There are two types occurring: One is web based for students needing to recover A-G credits, the other is facilitated by teachers and allows students to make up classes for graduation credit. About 100 students are currently enrolled.
- Benchmarks were given during midterm week. Math and English used the benchmarks provided by the new data information system, EDAMS. The tests were very similar to the CST where students could write directly in the test booklets.
- Mr. Renteria asked of parents would be able to view the data from EDAMS on their child. Mr. Genis said no, but teachers do have access and could relay that information to parents
- Two ERHS band members, Paul Espitia and Karla Bouche, were accepted to the Rose Parade Honor Band
- Cross Country league finals are this Friday at Legg lake
- 10th grade counseling took place over three Saturdays in which 400 parents were able to go over their child’s transcripts. It was a better turnout than in past years.
- Teachers are now able to access ABI from home and the next step is to get the parent portal up and running
- The town hall meeting took place 10/11/11 and there were many more people there from outside of the district. Despite many from LAUSD being more emotional and argumentative, Mr. Rodriguez said that out staff and students represented the district well.

- a) School Site Council Timeline-
- Mr. Genis created a timeline draft for SSC meetings. He thanked Mrs. Mejia for her help. He would like to ask SSC to think about having a June meeting.

- b) DATA Presentation
- Mr. Genis , Mr. Rodriguez and Dr. Ventura presented ERHS Data. See attached power point.
- Following the presentation, questions were entertained:
- Mrs. Oliveras was wondering what interventions are available for the honors or AP students that are struggling. Mr. Rodriguez responded that AVID may be a place for that student and Dr. Ventura mentioned that there is after school tutoring provided by Gear-Up and the PREP program.
- Mrs. Mejia asked what are the pre-requisites for an AP class and who are they open to? Dr. Ventura said each class has different criteria but that the counselors encourage students to try an AP class to give them access to the curriculum. In addition we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of students enrolled in an AP course.
- Mrs. Mejia asked what kind of course is Buisness Math? Also, is there collaboration between the middle schools and the high school in regards to math? Dr. Ventura said the business math is not A-G and is strictly for graduation credit. Mr. Genis said that thanks to the math curriculum counselor in the district there has been much more collaboration. All middle schools are using the same Algebra 1 book as the high school and they all are using the Language! Program.
- Mr. Renteria asked what modifications are given to seniors who haven’t passed the CHASEE. Dr. Ventrua and Mr. Larrache stated that students are in a small group setting, they are able to use audio and dictionaries for the English section and calculators for the math section. Also, as long as students finish within the school day there is no time limit.
- Mr. Renteria asked about what occurs during the truancy classes after school. Mr. Elias said that they are working on basic study skills to coach students on how to be better students. There has been an increase in their academic progress.
- c) Mr. Genis asked for the approval of transportation fees from EIA/SCE funds. Transportation would be provided for three English classes to the La Mirada Theater to see the Crucible on11/15/11.
- A motion to improve was made by Mrs. Mejia and seconded by Teresa Villegas. Approved.

Public Comment
- Mr. Elias reported that the entrepreneur club submitted a proposal to the Wal-Mart foundation for $2,500. They should hear within 60 days and would use the money to run a survey with students to get accurate data about transportation needs.
- Sarita Mota reported on Mondays from 9-10am in A102 there are arts and crafts being offered by the parent leadership council. They just finished making flower arrangements out of plastic bottles, which are on display in the main office. The next project is felt appliqué. Finally, pronunciation classes are still being held on Wednesdays.
- Mr. Renteria reminded everyone to vote in the elections on Tuesday 11/8/11.
